Family Sponsorship Canada

Canadian citizens and permanent citizens have a right to sponsor their loved ones residing in Canada or outside of Canada through Family Sponsorship Class. This process is the second largest category of Canadian Immigration, after economic immigration. The ones who get selected under the Family Class Sponsorship program are called Family Class Immigrants. Once they become permanent citizens of Canada, they can live, study and work in Canada. 

To be a sponsor, the Canadian resident or permanent citizen must:

• Sign an agreement with the relative to be sponsored that commits the sponsor to provide financial assistance for the relative, if required. This agreement also states that the individual becoming a permanent resident will make every effort to support him or herself.
• Provide economic backing for a spouse, common-law or conjugal partner for three years from the time they become a permanent resident.
• Provide financial support for a dependent child for ten years, or until the child turns 25, whichever comes first.

As a visitor applying for a Family Sponsorship, you should:

• Be spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner.
• Be dependent on children, including adopted who are 21 years old or under.
• Be parents or grandparents.
• Be eligible relative.
